This post is not password protected

I was wondering if you'd be willing to share some of your vast store of knowledge and wisdom with me? Please? I have encountered a situation here in bloggyland that I don't know how to handle. If someone password protects a post, how am I supposed to respond?

Do I email them and ask for the password? That seems a little presumptuous to me. If they wanted me to have the password, wouldn't they have sent it to me? Of course, that seems a bit egotistical as well. Assuming that everyone I read would think to send me the password. Hell, half the people I read don't even know I read them.

Do I assume that they're writing about me and that everyone in the world has the password except me and you're all talking about it? (j/k on that one. Even I'm not that narcissistic)

What if I email and ask for it (which I did once) and they don't respond (which she didn't). I took this to assume that she didn't want me to read the post. duh But an email saying "hey, it's personal, no offense, quit stalking me you freak" would have been appreciated.

So, what is the universally accepted, correct, courteous and proper way to handle password protected posts? Please do share before I embarrass myself further.

If you are a regular reader I would just ask. If she didn't respond to your email then well...either she is having an email glitch or she really is writing about you. Of course that is it! She is talking about you all the time. Shall we all gang up on her now?

Yep, just ask. Don't be offended though if they don't send it too you. Sometimes I PW protect posts when I'm writing about family issues (they know the blog address) or am being rather morose.

Geez, I dunno. You must be particularly offensive to this person, as, in my experience, I've always emailed and asked and then been given the password. Why does she hate you so much, do you think? Is it because you're beautiful and funny, and she's not?

Okay, seriously: I guess if you have no real reader/writer relationship with this person, I'd let it go. Like, if she doesn't read your blog or really respond to you when you comment on hers. However, if it's someone who LUFFS you, like me, you should keep pestering her. Well, at least try once more through email, all jokey-like, about how now you're SURE the post is about you and you know you're getting all paranoid, so could she just let you in so you can sleep at night...

Well, she told me not to tell you but . . .

Hahahahahaha! I kid! If you are a regular commenter, I would just ask. If you lurk and the person has never heard of you before, I don't think they'll send you the password.

I would not ask for the password as much as inform the blogger how blogging works. Or how stamps work. Or how phones work. Or talking.

I didn't know you could do that.
It sounds like a good way to foil anonymous spammers though.
